The Brenton Wright Scholarship 2020/21
As a co-founder of the Social Impact Investment Network SA (SIINSA), Brenton Wright helped set the wheels in motion for impact investment to go to the next level in SA, and as was his special gift, he brought many others with him.
Brenton had an indomitable spirit. He was a lifelong learner, committed to South Australia, and with a distinguished career and leadership in the public service, a major NGO, a multinational corporation and in small and medium business. Brenton’s outstanding network meant knowing Brenton reduced the number of degrees of separation considerably. His strong values driven approach and persuasive style opened doors and minds to solve problems and deliver results. Tragically, Brenton died in 2017.
About the scholarship
SIINSA is proud to announce an our second social impact investment scholarship in Brenton’s memory. The scholarship will be awarded to an individual to undertake a project, which demonstrates the potential to advance impact investment in South Australia.
The scholarship award of $5,000 over a twelve month period will fund work to research and prepare a report to address one or both of the following questions:
- What sorts of social investments/financing mechanisms (other than social impact bonds) have been used successfully in other jurisdictions that might be relevant in a South Australian context?
- In other jurisdictions where social impact investments have been used to trial new early intervention programs, what impact has this had in terms of (1) reform to mainstream services, (2) level of capability in both governments and service providers to implement greater use of outcomes measures in contract administration?
We are grateful to the Broadley Trust, South Australian Department of Treasury and Finance and the Wyatt Trust for supporting the 2020/21 scholarship.
Scholarship finds can not be used for conference fees or travel expenses. You may use the scholarship as matched funding for other grant funds.
